Character NAME: Waver Velvet
Canon & MEDIUM: Fate/Zero | anime
Canon PULL-POINT: Right after the end of the last episode of the anime.
Character AGE: 19 '
Character ABILITIES:
Waver is highly intelligent, to the point it's a strategy advantage. He is studying magic and seems to be really good at it, although it's obvious he's still learning. Most of things he's adept at are really simple- such as detecting magic through chemical testing. He's adept enough to summon Rider and to cast a spell strong enough to make people that weren't his grandparents think they were. As far as fighting, his magic does not seem very useful, although his intelligence makes up for it.
Character HISTORY:
Canon Wiki Link |Charater Wiki Link
Waver is a student at Clock Tower- which is a lecture hall for the Magus Society. His teacher, Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi, plans to enter the Holy Grail War out of greed, and also quite rudely ignores Waver's theory that a magus' strength is not decided upon strictly by blood or how many generations a certain family have had a magus in them. Frustrated by the man, Waver manages to steals a relic from his teacher to summon his Servant and enters the Holy Grail War himself. He succeeds, summoning Alexander the Great as a Rider class Servant, leaving his teacher to scramble to summon a Lancer class Servant. When El-Melloi and Waver meet in one of the first battles, Rider defends Waver, saying that Waver is worthy to be his Master because Waver at least could ride into battle with him (even though he hid and clung to Rider) rather slinking into the shadows safely away from the battle like El-Melloi was doing at the time.
Throughout the war, he seems to be the Master that keeps his head down the most, although Rider is in the habit of making a spectacle of himself with Waver in the middle of it. He and Rider also play a somewhat important role in stopping the murderer that summoned the Caster class servant of this war. He's able to use the fact he has a low profile to figure out Caster's location faster than anyone else. He even tricks an elderly couple into letting him stay with them for free- as well as concealing his identity- by performing a spell on them to make them think he is their grandson. He spends most of the war staying out of the way and letting Rider make most of his moves. However, after Rider's defeat, Waver stands up to Archer, earning him his life when Archer decides he respects Waver for his actions.
Character PERSONALITY:
.He is very bright and resourceful, and even takes the time to research and come up with the theory that blood is not as important as one would think regarding the power of the magus in question. The teacher mocked him and his well thought out work, so he intended to show him- and the rest of magical world- that blood didn't matter and that he could win things as well.. His thirst to prove himself- which is an important aspect of his personality- led him to steal a relic needed to summon a Servant into the Holy Grail War. He succeeds and ends up with a Rider class servant, Alexander the Great. Even though all the other Masters in the Holy Grail War were older, more experienced, stronger, and had support, Waver was still strong enough and resourceful enough to live through the Holy Grail War, even if he did not win. As stated above, despite his weak appearance, he's still as easy a target as he looks because he's quite resourceful and has a plan. He's essentially your average Straight-A-college bookworm. His magic skills seem to be decent although he's still learning. He frequently calls himself weak and Rider calls him an idiot quite a few times, although that may have more to do with his dreams of proving himself than his actual ability to comprehend. He does indeed have a thirst to prove himself, and states that he doesn't mind dying as long as he does his best.
Physically, he's kind of weak, just like the stereotype for bookworms states, With Rider, it's often used for comedic affect, since Rider is quite buff and a simple heavy handed pat on the back can make Waver unsteady. He's also shown to be on the cowardly side outwardly, doing things like shrinking behind Rider. Waver may get frustrated and flustered easily in normal situations, but he's shown to actually keep a cool head under fire, which is kind of the opposite of what you'd expect, but it works well for him. He does seem to have a concrete plan and no problem following through with it, at least as he progresses throughout the Holy Grail War. However, in the beginning, he does seem to appear very reliant on Rider's protection, as well as his plan of action. A great deal of the Fourth Holy Grail War is spent with him keeping his head down and allowing Rider to do as he pleased, indicating that he was not particularly courageous, although he did have a strong determination to see it through. That, however, leads back to him having a desire to prove himself, something that Rider coaches him about through his own experiences as Alexander the Great.
With Rider's defeat, Waver becomes a lot more confident, even becoming able to stand up to the Archer class Servant who was supposedly the strongest of all the Servants, and telling him that he had no intentions of fighting him as that was Rider's wish, and he was loyal enough to their bond to honor his request. Gilgamesh allows him to live due to somewhat respecting his loyalty to Rider. Waver then becomes much more confident. He's no longer as meek as he once was and develops an interest in traveling, indicating that he is less hot-headed and self-assured than before. He takes a lot of what Rider said to him to heart, particularly about Oceania, which was Rider's ultimate dream, as well as being a dreamer in general. This was also probably one of the things that relaxed Waver and made him shift his goals a bit. Over all, his experience in the Holy Grail War made him a more well-adjusted person.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON:
Waver's weapon will be his magic. The more he trains in Exsilium, the stronger the magic he does will be. Should he neglect his training for any reason, his ability to do magic will become worse. That also ties in with his theory that the more you train and study, the better magus you will become. While canon does not show him using "fighting" magic per se, he specializes in chemistry type magic that does allow him to trace other magic users, which could indeed be useful if a magic user needed to be found. Another spell he pulled off correctly was the ability to summon a Servant- meaning that he could potentially summon a familiar or other spirit to fight for him if necessary. Another specific type of spell he was shown to do was memory spells, considering he was able to trick an elderly couple into thinking he was their grandson. As far as fighting, that could possibly be used as a temporary confusion or diversion tactic.
.
Character INVENTORY:
He has his clothes and a backpack that has a few useful spellbooks. None of his spellbooks are beyond his level of abilities and are basically what he'd need for school or doing basic magic.

First PERSON:
[Waver looks a little agitated in this particular broadcast to the network. Sure, he'd participated in a war before, but this was a completely different story. After all, he chose to be the last war he was involved in. ]
So I get out of one war and have to participate in another one? At least the last one had something worth fighting for as a prize. What do these Initiate guys offer you if you're successful? Look, I'm not a fighter. You can ask the last guy I fought with and he'll laugh and wonder what the hell you could possibly want with a runt like me. You've got the wrong guy, I'm telling you.
[He pauses a moment, looking thoughtful.]
...But I suppose me telling them that isn't going to do much good. So I guess it would be better if I just toughed it out until they either reach their goal or someone strong enough comes along and puts an end to this.
Third PERSON:
Waver seems to be very focused as he sits under the tree reading a book. It was likely either a book of spells; or perhaps it was a book about the history of the Servant he'd once had, Alexander the Great, or some other similar legend he'd met in the Holy Grail War. Whatever he's reading, he seems to be really intent on it. He's not bothering to look up at the other people passing by on their way to and from training. He's muttering to himself, as well- reading alound unintentionally maybe?
No, no, no, that's not quite right..
.
His face is buried in the book and he has no idea that someone is attempting to get his attention. He's not ignoring the newcomer (probably), he's simply got his mind on his work. However, a loud noise does get his attention. He looks up from his book, looking rather annoyed at having been disturbed from whatever it is he's reading. This had better be good, he thinks immediately.
"Yeah? Can I help you with something?"
